Fishing the Coldharbour Way!

The Big Fish!

Clearly straight forward rod and line fishing doesn’t cut it for the guys at Coldharbour Mill.  Its easier if you steal their water first!  I just hope they haven’t made the whole too big otherwise they’ll need a STUCK to fill it! http://www.presentminded.co.uk/stuck-fish-sink–bath-plug-556-p.asp

Stuck-Fish-Plug-new-ebay

Its certainly smelling a little fishy here at the moment!  All of the fish from the leat are being transported in buckets to a safe holding space in the leat whilst all of the water is drained away….

Work continues in earnest here to provide much needed drainage for the cottages at Coldharbour which have been the victims as have many others of flooding over the last few years.

Present Minded Donate Bean Bags to DIY SOS: The Big Build – Hereford

Back in November 2013 we helped our friends at DIY SOS with the DIY SOS: Million Pound Build for Children In Need 2013!  See Our Blog Post!  The pic above is at Peterborough, well upload the Hereford one as soon as we’re allowed!

We couldn’t resist when they asked us at Present Minded to help with another deserving cause for a family in Hereford!  In particular a little boy called Christopher who was diagnosed in 2012 with a life threatening and life limiting condition called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, facing a very uncertain future where his muscles will slowly waste away.

Clare, Colin, Christopher and Ben were a happy and healthy family in Hereford until February 2012 when they took 7 year old Christopher, who had problems with standing, to the doctor’s. The family were given the devastating news that Christopher has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a life-threatening and life-limiting neurological condition that affects the body’s muscle tissue.  Muscle wasting often starts with the legs and then spreads to the arms, necks and other areas.  Most sufferers need braces to walk by the age of 10 and are in a wheelchair by the age of 12.  Eventually it leads to curvature of the spine, paralysis and death.  The average life expectancy is 25.

Dad Colin is a fire-fighter and mum Clare used to work full time, but has given up work to become Christopher’s carer.  This has meant that their financial situation has taken a tumble.  This is a family with a lovely house that they’ve spent care and money on, but because of Christopher’s condition their home is totally unsuitable to his needs. As well as having to cope with the emotional side of watching their son slowly die, the family are stuck with the physical implications of his condition.

Not only did we donate three Mighty B-Bags Bean Bags, Comic Photo Frame and Paint Pot Mugs for all the family but we couldn’t resist helping out while we were there!

With the Present Minded van loaded once again with our DIY SOS Bean Bag booty and the few extra bits and pieces for the finishing touches, Lee and Susie headed up the M5 from Devon for the two hour road trip to Hereford.

DIY SOS The Big Build Hereford Bean Bag Van

Understandably with ambitious projects of this nature to such tight timescale, the Big Build Hereford was running behind schedule when we arrived at around lunchtime so couldn’t get the Bean Bags off loaded and set up in the rooms.

Time to get stuck in!  The production team set us to work helping put together magnetic cars for a wall hung race track…… we can’t wait to see the end result.

On the reveal day all the trades and suppliers arrive to join in with the filming, see the finished project and meet the family.  Not a dry eye about!  Although Lee is claiming it was dust form the build! Really?

DIY SOS Hereford - Waiting to Meet the Family

We are once again very proud to have been involved in our small way in another huge project; and once again we would like to congratulate all the trades and suppliers involved, as well as the DIY SOS team both in front and behind the cameras for their amazing work and planning needed to enable a project like this to happen in only 9 Days!  Epic!

Present Minded Helps DIY SOS: Million Pound Build for BBC Children in Need

We have always been big fans here at Present Minded and we just couldn’t say no when we were asked to help with DIY SOS: Million Pound Build for Children In Need 2013!  Not only did we donate six of our Mighty B-Bags Bean Bags we helped out with the build while we were there!

Little Miracles is a support group and charity for families that have children with additional needs, disabilities and life limiting conditions.  Little Miracles have been fund raising to repair and keep the aging Spinney play centre open after it was closed by Peterborough City Council due to budget cuts.  Enter the DIY SOS team, who help not only completely knock down and rebuild the existing building but overhall and improve and gardens in only nine days!

With the Present Minded van loaded with our DIY SOS Bean Bag booty, Lee and Susie headed up the M5 from Devon for the five and a half hour road trip to The Spinney in Peterborough.

Understandably with a project of this size to such tight timescale, the Big Build was running behind schedule when we arrived at around lunchtime so couldn’t get the Bean Bags off loaded and set up in the rooms.

So, only one thing to do is get a cup of tea and then get stuck in! We built shelving with the bomb squad, fetched and tidied for some of the excellent tradesmen, shifted turf, collected and delivered emergency gravel in our van and helped cleaned furniture and rooms.  It was about 1am until we were able to help DIY SOS Designer Nina Campbell get our Mighty B-Bag Bean Bags in place ready for the Big Reveal to Little Miracles in the (same) morning.

Who are Present Minded?

Hello

We are Lee & Susie who started and now run Present Minded from our base in sunny Devon. oooh aarrr! (Well someone had to say it!).

We have over 20 years experience in retail and customer service between us, so we know how to meet and ideally exceed your expectations.  We are always open to hearing your feedback and comments along with any ideas or products that could help us improve our service for our customers.  Use our Contact Form on the bottom right or via our Website.

Present Minded was born from Lee’s long founded idea to run his own business, along with Susie’s great ideas and creative flair.  Although our idea was initially to run a pub, our attitude and aims to provide our customers with a great service still remain.

After over 6 months of late nights and weekends of researching, website building and product sourcing (ok playing with some of the toys was fun!), Present Minded was launched in October 2009.  We continue to work hard behind the scenes to source and stock further products, along with website improvements and other great ideas.  So be sure to let us know what you think or come back and see how we’re doing.
We pride ourselves on providing an reliable and trustworthy service from ordering to delivery, we’ll do our best to dispatch as quickly as possible and keep you up to date along the way.
